Merdeka 118 is the tallest building in Malaysia and Southeast Asia, standing as a symbol of national pride and modern development. Located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the tower rises to a height of 678.9 meters (2,227 feet), making it the second tallest building in the world, after Burj Khalifa. The form of Merdeka 118 is inspired by Malaysia’s historic moment of independence, referencing the hand gesture of Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman, when he declared “Merdeka!” in 1957.
The tower has achieved Triple Platinum green certification from LEED, GBI, and GreenRE.
Merdeka 118 stands as a premier Grade-A mixed-use skyscraper, anchored by major tenants such as Permodalan Nasional Berhad and Malayan Banking Berhad. The presence of multinational corporations further strengthens its role as a key business hub in Kuala Lumpur. In addition to its corporate function, the tower integrates luxury hospitality through Park Hyatt, located at the upper levels, enhancing the building’s prestige and offering world-class accommodation with panoramic city views.Overall, Merdeka 118 represents a complete vertical ecosystem—combining business, finance, and high-end hospitality—positioning it as one of the most iconic and strategically important developments in Malaysia.
The mechanical and vertical transportation systems of Merdeka 118 are designed to meet the demands of a supertall, mixed-use development. The ACMV system, supported by a centralized chilled water network and integration with a district cooling plant, ensures efficient and reliable cooling performance suited to the tropical climate of Malaysia. Complementing this, the lift system utilizes high-speed, double-deck elevators, zoning strategies, and intelligent destination control systems. In addition, the incorporation of an OEO (Occupant Evacuation Operation) lift system allows selected elevators to be safely used during emergencies, improving evacuation efficiency beyond traditional stair-only methods in high-rise buildings.
